The first scien\u00adtific confe\u00adrence in Germany dealing with the potential of computer science for biology research took place in 1985 in Braun\u00adschweig already. As a non-profit profes\u00adsional society it represents these fields in science, industry, politics and the general public. DECHEMA promotes scien\u00adtific and technical exchange among experts from different disci\u00adplines, organi\u00adsa\u00adtions and genera\u00adtions. We conso\u00adlidate the know-how of over 5,800 individual and sustaining members, identify and evaluate emerging techno\u00adlo\u00adgical trends and facilitate the transfer of research results into indus\u00adtrial appli\u00adca\u00adtions. The GMDS joined FaBi in October 2015.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Interest Group Bioin\u00adfor\u00admatics (FaBi) which was founded by the general assembly\/membership meeting during the GCB 2014 in Bielefeld, became the first specialist interest group repre\u00adsenting bioinformatician\u2019s interests with one legiti\u00admated voice in Germany. Today, FaBi has more than 1000 members and is headed by an elected advisory board.
