High-throughput experi\u00adments have found their way into many areas of chemistry, biology, medicine and pharma\u00adcology and provide a large amount of complex data in the areas of genome sequencing, protein expression profiles, protein structure eluci\u00addation and inter\u00adac\u00adtions between biomole\u00adcules (proteins, RNA, low-molecular compounds). Bioin\u00adfor\u00admatics develops software tools for preparing, evaluating and analyzing this data. It therefore plays a key role in the modern life sciences, as only with sophisti\u00adcated computer systems can knowledge be generated from large amounts of data and made usable for the prediction of biolo\u00adgical phenomena. The Bioin\u00adfor\u00admatics Division (FaBI) has defined the following definition of bioin\u00adfor\u00admatics as the basis of its work: <em>\u201cBioin\u00adfor\u00admatics is an inter\u00addi\u00adsci\u00adplinary science. We under\u00adstand bioin\u00adfor\u00admatics as the research, develo\u00adpment and appli\u00adcation of computer-aided methods to answer questions in molecular biology and biome\u00addicine. The focus is on models and algorithms for data at the molecular and cell biolo\u00adgical level, for example for<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Genomes and genes,<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>gene and protein expression and regulation,<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>metabolic and regulatory pathways and networks,<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>struc\u00adtures of biomacro\u00admole\u00adcules, in parti\u00adcular DNA, RNA and proteins,<\/em><br><em>molecular inter\u00adac\u00adtions between biomacro\u00admole\u00adcules and between biomacro\u00admole\u00adcules and other substances such as substrates, trans\u00admitters, messengers and inhibitors, and<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>the molecular charac\u00adte\u00adrization of ecosystems.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is bioin\u00adfor\u00admatics?
